6 Reasons For Bad Smell In Your House And How To Fix Them

We usually clean our house two to three times a week, so that it stays organized and smelling good. But did it ever happen to you that you enter your house and smell a bad odor? 1. Hidden mold

When you enter your house after a long day out and then suddenly you notice a musty smell in your house, that ladies and gentlemen is most definitely mold. Hidden mold in your house can make it smell bad and it should be spotted quickly before it spreads a lot and becomes toxic. Usually mold appears in places that are not well ventilated like the bathroom for example, or places that have some gutter problems or plumbing leaks. So, you need to check your house carefully when you are cleaning it, because mold can be toxic if it spreads in large areas.

You can easily get rid of mold if spotted when it is only in a small area, just clean it using soap and water or get a special anti-mold product, apply it on the area and clean it. In case there are larger places in your houses that has mold in them, you are going to have to call a professional because they are most definitely toxic, and they can endanger yours and your family’s health. But like we said above, prevention is the best cure, so make sure your house is well ventilated and everything is dry, so that you do not get mold in the first place.

2. Electrical problems

If fish and chips is your favorite meal then you will be very happy you have it for lunch, but the smell of raw fish is not really appetizing, But it is easy to get rid of it just some drops of lemon and throwing the leftover in the trash and your house will smell fresh like before. But what if you come back home and notice that your house smells like fish, and the weird thing is that you have not had fish since last month, so where is this fish smell coming from.

Well, unless you have a rotten fish under your sink or sofa, the problem is probably coming from electrical wires in your house. When wires get burnt or are malfunctioning, a smell of bad fish or urine comes out of it. Go around your house and check all the cables and wires, or even better get an electrician because even if you find the malfunctioning wire you should not try to manipulate or fix it on your own, you should keep that job for the expert.

3. Gas

Rotten eggs can leave your house smelling so bad that you cannot sit in it for another second. You notice a smell of rotten eggs in your house and you decide to throw all of the eggs out of the house and get new ones, but the smell does not go away and you cannot be that bad fortuned to get other rotten eggs instead of the ones you threw away. If the rotten eggs smell persists in the house, you should be alarmed because that could be a sign of gas leaking in your house, because when gas leaks it releases a similar odor to that of rotten eggs.

This situation can be very dangerous, so the first thing you should do is turn off the gas meter so that no other gas leaks, open all windows of the house and do not turn on the lights no matter what in risk of an explosion happening. After you have done this, call your gas company so that they can fix the problem and once the gas smell gets out of the house, and the gas company have done their job, you will be able to go back to your house safely.

4. Carpets

When cleaning our house, we usually just mop the carpet but that is not right. Carpets should be cleaner occasionally, so that they do not release a filthy smell because they absorb moisture and can get dirty by many factors. If you notice a bad smell in your house without finding the source, check your carpets and if the bad smell is coming from them, you should clean them instantly.

Just sprinkle some baking soda on your carpet and leave it overnight, the baking soda will absorb all the bad smell and moisture in your carpet, in the morning use the vacuum cleaner to remove all the baking soda from your carpet and it will be smelling fresh and your house as well.

5. The dishwasher

If you clean your kitchen everyday and it still smells bad, check your dishwasher or washing machine, because these two can also release a bad smell when used for a long time, if not cleaned. There are two main ways to cleaning your dishwasher.

First would be to run the machine through a cycle after putting a cup of vinegar inside of it; or put baking soda at the bottom of the dishwasher. Vinegar and baking soda absorb bad smells and will lean your dishwasher properly. If you want to deep clean your dishwasher, remove the filter where all the food residue stays and clean it and clean the rubber seal on its door.

6. The walls

Walls when they get too dirty, they emit a horrible smell that will leave the whole house selling funky. If your house wells start smelling bad, spray them with white vinegar mixes with warm water and then use a cloth to wipe it off. Or mix a tablespoon of ammonia with a cup of water and use this mixture to clean your walls. This will remove any bad smells and dirt from your walls.
